Itam hakiim, Hopiit [videorecording] = We, someone, the Hopi / Victor Masayesva, Jr. [1984]

Made in celebration of the Hopi tricentennial, Itam hakiim, Hopiit is a poetic visualization of Hopi philosophy, history and prophesy. In contrast to the ethnographic practice of cultural interpretation, Masayesva emphasizes observation and oral tradition, allowing Hopi voices to be heard in their own language. Structured around the storytelling of tribal elder Ross Macaya, this video weaves together personal and cultural histories to recount the Hopi Emergence, the Pueblo Revolt of 1680, the age of the conquistadors, and the story of the Bow Clan.
